In the era of knowledge economy, intangible asset is playing a more and more important role for the enterprise. Providing relative and reliable information about intangible asset brings out more accurate decision making. What impact does the implementation of new General Accepted Accounting Policy (GAAP) give to the accounting treatment of intangible assets and to the quality of relevant accounting information? The research on this question has a profound meaning the reality.
The passage starts with the introduction of recognition, measure and disclosure of intangible assets in new related GAAP, analyzes both positive and negative impact the new GAAP brings to the accounting practice, and finally, provides the following methods to polish the GAAP about intangible assets: clarify of the detailed content of intangible assets, further regulation on R&D expense, treatment of amortization of intangible assets related expense and general use of fair value measure.
