FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY IN THE DEVELOPING NATIONS
发展中国家的食品和营养安全
Abstract: The demand of Food for Human consumption will and shall continuously increase but certainly the demand for Quality and high value added Food products shall definitely increase logarithmically. The Food Chain need to become stronger if the Nation has to link together by Networking and such a networking should also be sustainable. In addressing the Food Security, one has to also address the Capacity Development in terms of Infrastructure or Human Resource. There are several losses in the Food Chain and if these loopholes are plugged, perhaps the Scenario of the Food Security will increase better and much more advantageous not only to the business houses and the trader but also for the overall food quantity for the Nation. How do we measure these losses in a quantifiable way and how do we link up this Food Security to value addition involving the Farmer, Grower and the Producer? We must also address the economics of Nutrition and how it will ultimately drive the market. When we look at Food Processing, we also have to worry in the Food Security agenda that Food Safety and also it's cost effectiveness. It is here the Nutrition also plays a major role and its reach out to people. Unless, there is a Food Security which is very firm and dependable, many a times a Nation's Security is also shaky because it is food that will really make things happen in a system. Food is not only the job of the Government but also one must look at the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) in building infrastructure and also the Networking of Human Resource Development. Hence, it is a holistic approach and makes a phenomenal difference when one looks at the new angle of Food Security for Developing Nations.

INFLUENCE OF APPLE BAGGING ON HEAVY METALS AND PESTICIDE RESIDUE IN APPLE FRUIT

Abstract: The paper discusses the experimental results conducted in Luochuan and Baishui orchards on content of certain heavy metals like Pb, Cd, Cr as well as pesticide residue on the bagged apples, double bagged apples and non-bagged apples respectively. There are two results. The content of certain heavy metals and pesticide residue on non-bagged apples are greater than those of bagged ones, while those of single-layer-bagged ones are greater than those of double bagged ones. Heavy metals are primarily concentrated on the apple peel. The content of cyfluthria in non-bagged apples is 0.03 mg/kg, 3 times that of single-layer-bagged ones while none is found in the double-bagged ones. It is concluded that apple bagging is an effective measures to ensure the apple safety.
